The MGM Lion's Mighty Roar..

Courtesy of a Tiger!

2.jpg

The famous MGM roaring lion sound we hear in the logo sequence is actually a tiger's roar, not a lion's. While the visuals feature a lion (the iconic "Leo the Lion"), sound experts have noted that a tiger's roar was used in some instances because it has a deeper and more ferocious quality, making it more dramatic for the logo.

This blend of using a lion's image with a tiger's roar is an interesting twist, but it adds to the iconic nature of MGM’s branding over the decades!
